Water Conservation Resources for Cities and Utilities
Successful water conservation happens when our customers work with us to educate and encourage the residents they serve to save water. Upper Trinity provides resources to our members and customers to help them plan and communicate about water conservation and drought contingency planning. The following materials will help you communicate with your customers.
Creating a Water Management Plan & Strategy
Your Water Management Plan

Your Water Management Strategy
We also encourage our member cities and utilities to include the following landscape water management strategy as a year-round approach to outdoor water conservation. This strategy is mandatory under our 2024 Water Conservation Plan, and additional measures take effect when a drought response stage is initiated.
The strategy consists of two steps:
- Limiting outdoor watering with automatic systems or hose-end sprinklers to no more than two times per week.
- Avoiding outdoor watering with automatic systems or hose-end sprinklers from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.
Suggestions for Switching to AMI/AMR
Is your utility considering or undergoing a switch from standard meters to AMI/AMR systems? The Texas Water Resources Institute’s publication, Considerations for adopting AMI and AMR: A comprehensive guide for water utilities, offers helpful information and things to consider when making the change.
